Top 7 Everyday Items as Weapons

Aug. 20 3:50 PM by Nikole

Video games can be a valuable learning tool. One thing video games can teach us is self defense. We never know when nazi's, aliens, or nazi aliens may attack us so it's a good idea to know what everyday items can be used to defend ourselves in these situations.

7. Crowbar from Half Life

The Crowbar, made famous by the Half-Life series, is a must have item if a gun isn't near by. What was once only used to open boxes can now be used to beat in the face of your enemy. If it's good enough for Gordon Freeman, it's good enough for me. I suggest you keep one under your pillow and one under the seat of your car.

6. Wrench from Bioshock

A wrench can normally be found in a toolbox, something most people have lying around in their garage. They're main purpose is to tighten bolts. Their secondary purpose is to break the facial bones of splicers, or whatever other bad guy comes your way. In games like Bioshock, this an ideal weapon, especially if you stun the enemies with electricity first.

5. Eggs Banjo Kazooie

When one thinks of eggs, 2 things come to mind: chickies, and breakfast. But think again, Eggs can be lean, mean killing machines. Let me lay it out for you, Kazooie's ass is a cannon and her eggs, cannon balls, paints quite the pretty picture. Although I do think it's a bit odd that Kazooie, is using her eggs as weapons. I am forced to assume they are unfertilized eggs, but we all know there is something going on with her and Banjo.

4. Banana Peel from No One Lives Forever 2 and Mario Kart
There are at least 2 games that allow us to use a banana peel as a weapon. Both Mario Kart and No one Lives forever 2 uses them. We all know whenever a banana peel is used to make someone hurt themselves epic lawlz are to ensue. The actual banana is never used, which means throwing a banana peel is actually a form of recycling. Anytime one can go green and cause an enemy pain is win.

3. Water from Super Mario Sunshine

In Super Mario Sunshine Mario uses more than his fists of furry to get rid of evil. Mario teams up with FLUDD, a backpack water hose. Fludd stands for Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device. In most games water is used as something to give back life, like in Prince of Persia. But in this case it's used to slowly kill and often melt your foe. If what kills bad guys consumes 75% of your planet, you sir are in luck.

2. Yoyo from StarTropics

In the game Star Tropics, little Mike is on a rescue mission. His weapon of choice: a Yo-Yo. The yo-yo starts of short range but with time you can upgrade, and maybe even learn tricks. I'm sure walking the dog would suffice as self defense. Unfortunately when this game was re-released on the virtual console the Yo-Yo's name had to be changed to the Island Star because Yo-yo is trademarked in Canada.

1. Scissors from Postal 2

Postal is a series that makes use of all kinds of weapons. One weapon that really cuts through enemies is the scissors. Most people have a few pairs of scissors lying around the house. In postal there are multiple ways to use them. One is by simply throwing them forward and stabbing your victim. Another fun way to use scissors is adding the ability to ricochet. Yep, throw them at a wall and have them bounce all over the place. It's totally safe.

I have to go with the banana peel. Hey it worked for Billy Madison!! LOL!

Oh man, where's the snowball from South Park on N64? You could even add some natural yellow color to it to make it more powerful!

You are my new hero for knowing and using the scissors from postal 2.

Not the lawnmower from Dead Rising?[p] I am now depressed.

KingOfTwilight: Yeah! The lawnmower from Dead Rising is one of my favorite everyday items as a weapon from a video game. 2nd place would have to be the chainsaw!

Awesome list Nikole!

did nobody use the excavator in dead rising? it was so much better than the lawnmower - it was basically a huge auger that you impaled a zombie through the chest with, and then proceeded to use them, limbs an all(until the limbs fell off) as a giant spinning drill/body of death.

seriously, lawnmower was just boring next to that.

oh yea, and when you actually impaled them, it went into the RE4 sidecam getting youe head cutt off by a chainsaw mode.. speaking of which.. chainsaw..?

haha I don't know what items you have lying around your house but I don't think a chainsaw is something most people have in the kitchen.

lol, you'd be surprised most common houses do in fact have chainsaws lying around in their garage. >_<

dude...have you PLAYED Zombies Ate My Neighbors?

SHAME ON YOU!

i have it on SNES. u get soda, knives/ forks, plates and im having a brainfart so i dont remember what else

Yeah, Nikole could have easily filled this list with items from Dead Rising. I loved the 'Strike' achievement where you knock down 10 zombies by rolling the bowling ball haha. And Zombies Ate My Neighbors, man what an underrated classic that was.

We have shotguns ere in teh south, someone comes up in teh yard we don't know, we shoot at em.

I loved using the guitar in Dead Rising, and also gumball machines/mannequin limbs in Condemned.

Damn. Scissor deaths.....nasty.

I was always fond of the lead pipe from Silent Hill 2. It's like mutant zombie Cluedo. It was the euthanising emo-boy in the Historical Society with the lead pipe...

Picking up teddy bears with telekinesis in Bioshock and wreaking havoc is always too much fun.
