Register to Vote via Xbox Live

Aug. 22 1:18 AM by Navie

Starting Monday August 25th XBL users will now be able to register to vote, participate in presidential polls and submit opinions to the candidates, all while never putting down the controller! Yesterday Microsoft and Rock the Vote announced this groundbreaking venture, claiming:

Xbox is a natural partner to help us reach out to youth voters, said Heather Smith, executive director, Rock the Vote. To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and theres no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE.

In addition to registering, XBL users will also be able to take part in debates and download Rock the Vote public announcements. XBox has future plans to have a presence at both the Democratic and Republican conventions, promoting the new scheme to get the next generation of voters into politics, and to promote awarness of the family safe settings offered by XBox and XBL for helping keep younger kids safe while playing.

Great idea in theory, but give two thoughts right now about the type of people you find on XBL. The idea of those racist, ignorant, screaming hate mongers voting for anything makes me LOL. Future decision makers of America. Classic.

i think that a pretty good idea.

i wonder how this will turn out...interesting

Voter registration information is highly sensitive. Manipulation of it can influence or rig elections. I don't have the confidence in XBOX Live security to use it to actually register. As far as worries about numb-nuts suddenly flooding the polling places, that's democracy. All idiots welcome.

I agree wiff sportsorviolence21, meh. <.<

Gotta say I think it's an alright idea. Even though a lot of people say dumb shit online, that doesn't necessarily make them dumb people, incapable of making an informed vote.

How they gonna know someone is 18 years old to vote? O.o
