Gamers on Jeopardy

A few times a year the show Jeopardy has a special "teen" episode. Last night I was lucky enough to turn the tv on at just the right time to see it. A few minutes into the show they announced the categories, and one of them was Gamers Unite. In this category a series of gaming related questions was asked, see if you can do better than the contestants did.

The first answer was:
"In this 2007 sequel Master Chief has new vehicles like the Mongoose to help stop the flood and the covenant."

Steve, also known as Rachel, got it right. She answered, "What is Halo 3?"

That was only for $200, so it was easy.

Next answer is:
"The Burning Crusade, an expansion to this popular Blizzard game, offers 2 new races: Draenei and Blood Elves."

Nobody even guessed. The answer is obviously World of Warcraft.

For $600, the answer is:
"This musical instrument simulation game has a working whammy bar."

The other Rachel got it right with: What is Guitar Hero?

The $800 dollar clue was:
"In 'Shadow of Angmar', a video games based on these books, Sauron sends Nazgul in search of some jewelery."

Steve got it right with, "What is Lord of the Rings?"

Last question, this one is for $1000:
"This Japanese video game involves a sticky little ball that players roll to grow it larger by picking up things."

The only male contestant, Zia, guessed, "What is Snowball?"

Uh. No.

The answer was Katamari, no one got it right.

So how did you do, did you get them all right? I hope so, they were all painfully easy. If you were there you could be $3000 dollars richer. I have to admit it was fun answering these questions, basically since I got them all right. I'd love to see a gaming themed edition of Jeopardy in the future.

wait your post says first answer you mean first question right?

Zia lives close to me. Just a town away. BTW I only missed one of those and it was the LOTR question.

Well jeopardy is all weird and makes you answer in question form. So they give you the answer and you give them the question.

i saw a jeopardy episode where they made a leroy jenkins reference in one of the questions. that episode was long time ago.

Nice, i also wish for a video gaming edition of jeopardy. yep, the questions were easy. i will try to find the video on you tube. cool news.

i never played katamari, so i dont know what its about... thts the only one i got wrong...

I got em all cept that last one. No clue what Katamari is.

I saw the question/answer with Leeroy Jenkins too and laughed. I thought of the live action Youtube parody with the guy in the elevator (check it out if you haven't already haha). But I've never played Katamari either, although I knew the other answer/questions.

The Leeroy Jenkins question was hilarious. I couldn't believe it was for real!

I also remember seeing an episode where the "answer" was Final Fantasy X2. (The "question" had something to do with the first genuine sequel in a long running series.)

Jeopardy tends to test the breadth of your knowledge as much as the depth. These questions seem easy to most of us because gaming is a major hobby... The fact the contestants on these shows seldom know the answers suggests that they've focused on academics to the point they don't know a thing about any form of "teen culture."

Hot new profile pic. I got zero right :D
