Come on, you knew it was coming. Everyone know at least one person who was standing around in the gamestore at midnight to grab their copy... it may have even been YOU! Blizzard is reporting to have sold 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours of being on sale, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time.
As someone who has played it all, I still find WoW's success to be an amazing phenomenon. MMORPGs existed before WoW, and they existed after WoW as well, and yet no other game can manage even 1/10th of the playerbase. It's even got this gal thinking about reactivating the WoW account.
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King", has sold more than 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability*, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. This eclipses the previous record of nearly 2.4 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in January 2007 by Blizzards first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade®. Wrath of the Lich King was simultaneously released in North America, Europe, Chile, Argentina, and Russia on November 13; Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand on November 14; and South Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on November 18.
Were grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft, said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content weve created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead.
Are you playing WOTLK? What are your thoughts and feelings?

It sells fast because you can't keep playing if you don't buy the expansion... I was way more impressed with fallout 3's sales. IT IS THE BEST EVER!
I'm going to play it all the way through (all sidequests completed) at least three times (for different karma levels). now I just need some time to play it...
I can't wait to kill everyone and steal!
eww...that's a bad thing in my book =/ to many people play that game and don't really have a grip on reality.
"2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability"
For a reason that fact scares me a bit. I don't have anything against WoW (ex-player)but the addiction level of this game is huge! I am sure all those hardcore players must be happy with the new expansion but i have the feeling that the game is getting too old. My major issue is how to convince my girl not to buy this.
@Feldon, yes it is an addiction. I can hear it calling sometiems. dunno if I want to reactivate yet.
Determination is all u need. After my last Format on my Pc i took those WoW disks and locked them in my fortified closet full of useless and "never to touch again" games.
But every once and awhile when i get close to my closet i hear stuff like "Get your feet on the ground"
Really though just to make sure i gave my account info to a good friend, who unfortunately got sucked in WoW and is now officialy considered missing in Raid action. Btw i could really use some tips on how to convince my girl on taking a break from WoW.She ain't a hardcore player but i fear she might become one if i get her WotLK
Just sit her down and explain to her that if she gets WOTLK, there had to be some ground rules as far as usage. Set up a structure BOTH of you can agree and adhere to, and explain your concern over the issue in a way that shows you care about her wellbeing.
If WOW is a hobby of hers, it wouldnt be fair to ask her to stop or take a long break. Relationships are about compromise, so that both parties can have their way within reason.
World of Warcaft & its expansions: Making my friends disappear for two months since 2004
WoW seems to be our cocaine. WoTLK only ups the dosage. It's time to test your mettle. Can you balance a gaming life with that of the realworld? Do you accept this Quest?
I'm not playing - but you know - I do think that Blizzard has done a great job with WoW - and it was a good game. Maybe I just don't get the whole hero class thing. I changed over to Warhammer, and I love it.
Still, it's amazing how many people love WoW and how it really has kind of changed MMOs and how people look at them. So many people know what WoW is that know no other game.
you'd think Blizzard has so much money from WOW players that pay for the game that an expansion should of been free anyway.
I think The Sims 3 will be coolier...

I'd like to play WoW, but I am too busy loving Final Fantasy XI right now. Got a lv 65 Dragoon right now, lovin it, but hail teh Lich King!
First of all LOL @ omegatron
I admit, I gave up and got the game five days after the release, I wasn't going to even plan to buy the expansion after TBC. But, now...I have a Death Knight, yes I know the server is full of them, running around the Outlands and killing everything. Wotlk was sold out even five days after the original date released. I got the last copy in my whole town. I'm happy with the purchase.
