My Dream: A Pokemon MMO

Dec. 23 8:07 PM by Nikole

One game that I have never been able to tire of is Pokemon. I have every single version of it I'm sure. I am currently playing Pokemon LeafGreen. I even have Pokemon Snap, and dag-nabbit I love it. But the more I play the more I feel there is a great opportunity to make something really amazing. I think there is so much potential for Pokemon MMORPG. I know it would not have nearly the following of the traditional WoW type MMO game but I think all those closet poke fans would really appreciate it. Whenever I talk about my favorite Pokemon installment with fellow players we always say we like the same series. Pokemon Silver, Gold, and Crystal were the best games mainly because its the longest game. As the sequels to the ground breaking Blue, Red and Yellow you could travel to both Johto and Kanto. I remember when I first realized you could go to both, I was in the 6th grade I think and I was elated. The problem with Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Diamond and Pearl is that once I beat the Pokemon League I'm not really motivated to play much longer, despite the fact that I really want to.

So I'm gonna lay out the plans for my MMORPG. I'm going to use several WoW comparisons because for many people MMORPG and WoW are synonymous. First off theres the map, playable lands. There are infinite possibility's for different environments but you wouldn't even need to make new ones up, there are so many you have to work with. There are Kanto, Sevii Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Orange Islands, Orre, Fiore, The Elite 4, and Pokemon Stadium. Each one can be a different land with exclusive Pokemon for each one and 8 different gyms.

Each land would have many gyms. Similar to the video games series, one uses the badges to gain points, respect, and obedience from your Pokemon. The badges can be a way of leveling your trainer up like in WoW. You would also have the opportunity to see, approach, and capture wild Pokemon. And once caught one can level up the Pokemon for battle, similar to the Hunters in WoW. Just like in WoW there would be quests, and missions that would get you ExP, items, and money.

As you can tell by my reasoning here I want the MMORPG to be basically the same as the video game series in plot, goals, and characters, just on a grander scale.

Basically it would be all the games put together(there will be a camera option for all you pokesnap-maniacs), but limitless. Theres no where you can't go, there's no achievement that means you have nothing else to do. The highest lvl would be 100 not 70.

> Characters:
> Trainer-Specializes in training.
> Nurse-Specializes in healing.
> Ranger-Captures.
> Photographer[jaykay]-Take ultra-cute pictures!
> Team Rocket[bad guys]-Works for the enemy.

Obviously trainer would be the obvious choice, but there could be little extras to make each trainer different aside from the way they look. One can have the option of being a certain type of trainer, water, fire, evolution, and so on.

This idea of a Pokemon MMORPG is hardly original, many people have been talking about it for years. There are even sites where people have attempted to make their own.A website called Pokemononline.org

I think now is the perfect time to start making this. WoW is only getting bigger and new MMO's like Star Trek are coming out in the near future. Nintendo, get on this!

Also, my favorite Pokemon is Squirtle.

sounds sweet. I'd play it.

I've been hopeing for a Pokemon mmo ever sense I heard the Wii supports online.

MAKE IT HAPPEN NINTENDO!

damn... You're pretty elaborate with this.

i really would like to play it if nintendo would make it. . .i actually enjoy playing the games(is that weird? cuz im like really old to play such kid games. . .). . .but they get tired some once u beat the league and have all the badges. . .and what the hell, why arent there any side quests?. . .i havent notice any in any of the versions i have played. . .

my fav pokemon is aerodactyl. . .c?, that was childish. . .

The easy way for this to occur, would be for Nintendo to make a contract with Blizzard to turn Pokemon into a MMORPG.

squirtle is easily the best pokemon. you have good taste. :D

totally agree w/ vongaurd. . .blizzard defenitly has experience in this sort of crap. . .

WOW that sounds awesome nintendo should so make a Pokemon MMO. I would be team rocket if it had those options.
PS Squrtile is okay I like alakazam more.

interesting...but we still need a first MMO on consoles. and the wii is the last place I'd play aN mmo

I had the same idea (albeit not as elaborately designed!) a few years back. That's the thing about NIntendo games though, they build these amazing worlds, and any of them could house amazing MMOs. Imagine a Mario one where you could be your own pudgy plumber or Goomba? Or even a Legend of Zelda MMO...though I imagine it would come down to either being royalty trying to escape or a hero trying to rescue...

BUt NIntendo doens't have it in them to get that Hardcore...sigh.

that was badass... i could imagine myself playing
that shit on my pc... i'd buy a wii for it, too...

I too have wondered what a Pokemon MMO would be like. It seems like the natural next step for the series since it already has the social aspect of trading and competing against others.

The only tricky thing I see is the communication. How do you make it easy and straight forward to convey different thoughts while at the same time protecting younger players from the garbage you often see in a typical MMO? Thought bubbles? /shrug

i recently just got re interested in the games... i got my first and only pokemon game whenb pokemon red and blue first came out... it was red version.. great game... loved it... infinte replay value.. i started playing emerald on my laptop (emulator/ rom) about 4 days ago... its a fun game... very addictive... and the MMO idea sounds like a fun idea...

i have always wanted a Harry Potter MMO... i am an admitted potter fan, i have read all 7 books own all 5 movies and am excited for the next two... i just think tht it has a lot of potential... being able to pick between a dark wizard or witch and a light wizard or witch... and taking after fable your appearance would change based on your evil scale... i thought this up in the summe (its what kept me sane during my extremely long work days)...

sounds interesting. i think the one reason i never could get into playing the pokemon games was because i wanted to play the pokemon, not the trainer.

i'm 13 and i still love the Pokeman games. The show, no fuckin way
