Back from Ohayocon!

Jan. 7 10:31 AM by Oh_Snap

Today is my first day back from Ohayocon and I had a blast! I stayed there all three days and it was so much fun. For those of you who don't know, Ohayocon is an anime convention. I know, I know, most of you are probably thinking to yourself "what does anime have to do with video games?!"

Actually, anime conventions should probably be called anime/video game conventions. I'd say that at least 50% of anime conventions are dedicated to video games and their culture... if not more. So if you live somewhere that doesn't get a lot of exposure to gaming events, you may want to consider going to a convention next time one is near you. They have tournaments, panels to talk about video games (I'll get to that in a minute), fighting games, ect. Not to mention in the dealers room they have a ton of hard to find game merchendise, including game systems both new and old, Japanese imported video games and toys like figurines, plush dolls, and models.

I was happy to see there was a panel there called "Chick Gamers" though sadly I only got to see the end of it, because I was at the masquerade at the time. But from what I did see, it was pretty good. It was nice to see everyone was being mature in there, and they talked about a lot of what we talk about here. Like "would you be more likely to buy a game if the main character was a female?" (the answer was resoundingly no) and "how do you feel about games that cater to fangirls?" (Mixed opinions about that...some of the girls liked that, and some didn't.) Another fun panel was "Live Action Role Play." Basically, the players acted like they had gotten into a fight in an RPG game. They would swing their weapon at the other player who was against them, and the other player would have to take damage or dodge. It was good dorky fun!

Here are some pictures from the con. I didn't take these. I had wanted to post the pictures I actually took, but they sucked. I fail at photography. Be careful Mario! Be careful Mario!

and even though I'm not dressed as a video game character...

Credit goes to Limebarb for making my costume, she's really great at it. :D Anyway, that's all the pictures I have for now. If you want to see a picture from a certain series, I'll take a look and see if there was someone dressed up as a character from it.

Oh wow-that Mario block character's costume ruled! Haha. I forget what that guy is called.

Great pics btw.

He is a "Thwomp" ^_^

And yeah, great idea for a costume, though I doubt it was comfortable or convenient to move around in.

fatal frame 2 girls...creepy.

RESISTING...URGE..TO....CRY....*Headbangs in fury* I'll never get to go at this rate.

Nice entry. Not that I would dress up for it.
Only person I'd go as would be Light Yagami.

The Peach on the extreme left and Sheena are pretty cute. ;o

I'm most likely going to AnimeExpo again this July, and I might even make Fanime if money allows.
