When a friend sent me this video I kinda cringed, I am not a Soul Calibur fan, but when I heard the breathing, I almost passed out....seriously I think my heart skipped a few beats...then when I saw Yoda I screeched! Oh my god, I am hyperventilating.
So it looks like Darth Vader will be on the PS3 version and Yoda will be on 360...which means, I will be buying two copies of Soul Calibur 4 this year. I have never even liked Soul Calibur, I don't do button-mashing games...but this year Namco knew right where to hit me. I am sold. I love you Star Wars anything!

This call for a celebration, im going out tonight and get wasted for the excellent news, i almost die too, the bad news is that Darth Vader is a ps3 exclusive and Yoda 360, i dont have much information yet, but it makes cents right? ps3 is black and xbox 360 is white, which side to choose will be the problem, i personlly like more the dark side but yoda also kicks ass too. thanks for the trailer and Farewell.
Whoa,Whoa, Whoooaa, i think i might be wrong, but isnt Lord vader on the ps3? i didnt notice the message below (didnt i told you that i was almost dying) but please give a clear anwser. i know how you feel about soul calibeu, i remeber that i bought it on the gamecube just because i am a huge Zelda fan but the moment i start playing it chaange my mind, is truly a great game. thats all for now and may the force be with you.
Yeah you're right, I got a little too excited there and messed up my facts. All fixed. :) Thanks for pointing that out for me...easy way to remember: PS3 color (blue and) BLACK = Vader, Xbox colors are (black and) GREEN = Yoda.
Excuse me but this doesn't make sense. The soul calibur series takes place on earth. The Star Wars series takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. They better have some expaining to the fact of how they came to intertwine.
Dark Helmet is going to fuck those non-laser sword wielding people up.
Fudge, I want Vader and not Yoda but I only have a 360.
I dunno about this.. yeah the Star Wars characters are cool but unlike Link and Spawn, and even Heihachi, who looked like they belonged in the game since they had a medieval vibe to them, Vader and Yoda are science fiction characters, more futuristic-looking than the rest of the cast in Soul Calibur.
Word. I was totally going to write about this! This is VERY IMPORTANT NEWS. I have some pro soul calibur players on my list -- and they spazzed when they got the chance to tell me. I fell in love when I heard about it too!
Spawn belonged in Soul Calibur II? It wasn't even Medieval Spawn, it was straight outta the Bronx Al Simmons Spawn. Heihachi, also, magically warped 600 years into the past. And Link? A whole other world altogether. Yes, I agree that Vader and Yoda don't fit into the whole game, but they aren't supposed to. That's why they're guest characters. The only character that has ever made sense is Yoshimitsu, and that's because they made him the first in a long line of the Yoshimitsu ninja clan.
If there's anything to call bullshit on, it's the fact that a lightsaber would cut through the other characters' weapons, let alone their flesh. Then again, the Soul Calibur series has never been realistic at all, so that isn't a big deal at all.
I, for one, am thoroughly excited about this. Soul Calibur is the funnest 3D fighting game series next to Dead or Alive, and my love for Star Wars knows no bounds. I'd rather play as Yoda, honestly, but I was planning on getting this for the PS3 instead. Dilemma.
I didn't buy all three versions SCII, so I don't see why I'd do that this time. The 360 controller isn't ideal for fighting games, but my DOA4 stick will remedy that.
I'll wait till they've been out long enough to have a price cut before buying them. I've got the Gamecube version of Soul Caliber 2 and need to acquire the Xbox and PS2 versions. I'll have to get a PS3 and a Xbox360(my little brother has one, so I'm not in a big hurry)and still need to get Soul Caliber 3. I've been rounding up older games anyway to work through.
Soul Calibur 4 huh... I played #2 for gamecube and it was the first button mashing fighter I ever liked. That video was unbelievably AWESOME! The Darth Vader breath was spot on! (Man, you weren't kidding when you said Star Wars-gasm! I almost had tears :P) Lightsabers own all other puny swords. This'll great to tide us over unitl The Force Unleashed..
Pity really- there used to be a happier time in every GamePro magazine when the "S" section was the Star Wars section...*sniff*...there aren't enough Star Wars games nowadays..

Spawn, Link and even Heihachi LOOKED like they belonged in the game.. Spawn with his demonic outfit and axe, Link with his tunic, sword, etc, Heihachi with his traditional japanese garb, they fit RIGHT in to the regular cast of characters... Darth Vader and Yoda don't look like they belong at all with their glowing laser swords and plastic armor.. why doesn't LucasArts pair up with Namco and design a fighting game based around the Star Wars characters using the Soul Calibur engine or something? Now that would be cool. Masters of the Teras Kasi was a good concept, the gameplay just sucked..
Soul Calibur is button mashing, sure, but it is button mashing with skill. Kinda like my skill in Counter-Strike, I can aim that spray like you wouldn't beleive - no praying necessary. On top of that the fluidity of the fight not only looks cool to watch, but makes you feel like you are doing something equally badass, even if it is quite simple.
It is the most entertaining fighting game I have ever played. Old school can go to hell, mortal combat and street fighter were boring.
But regarding this discussion, who cares if they fit, it will be fun.
This coming from a PC gamer, who am I to talk.
Greetings, i just got back from celebrating in a club (and then to an After party)the news (i am wasted, i already spread the news in Tijuana , i sell on ebay and just turn on the laptop just to see my selling orders , so i tought it was a good idea to reply again, p.s. i am a paintor and i can paint any custom order if you want a special painting on any topic (star wars, mario, metal gear, etc.). The good thing is that we have a lot of gamers here in TJ (i live 4 minutes from the border and 50% of the people i know are gamers or fans of the popular culture- anime, movies, games-)
And where are all the Star wars fans out there, this topic should have more replies.
And to JPThunder01, wouldnt be great to see Nightmare VS Yoda, or Ivy VS Darth vader (i really wish that General Grievous might be as an unlockable character), besides if you know the story of spawn (i have most of the comics) doesn´t fit in soul calibur (neighter the era nor the genre) but it was great that he made an appereance. thats all for now, i have to wake up tomorrow at 2:00pm with a hangover. Star wars for ever, hic up
It would be cool if the laser saber would melt all those metal weapons when they touched them. Too bad this won't happen. =D
I'm talking about looks, not backround stories. Of course the guest characters from SCII aren't going to fit in with the main cast, but they did based on how they looked. Darth Vader and Yoda are just a little too far fetched for me.
ps3= the dark side. btw I love it when u talk dirty...lol
Well I am just happy to know which version I will get is decided. The dark side just has that appeal. Besides the PS3 controller is far superior for fighting games. I love the 360s controller but the one thing it is for sure lacking is in the d-pad department.

I love Star Wars... the movie. I'm sick of Star Wars the lunch box, the hair gel and the morning after pill (The un-Leia Pill). Star Wars came out almost 30 years ago. Isn't it time for us to dream up some new characters?
Just kidding. I'm totally excited. Lets hope there's at least a couple of Star Wars characters on each console so they can battle each other.
I would love a new Star Wars:Masters of Teras Kasi. I liked the original even though it was a bit flawed - game mechanics were overly simple, characters weren't very balanced, etc - and now they have a whole pool of new Star Wars characters to pull from (all the Jedi from Episode 2, for example) that would bring the character roster up from the paltry few that were available in the original game.
Let's see how well Force Unleashed lives up to the hype, and then we can go from there. ^_^
Well if demand is strong enough maybe we will get a Star Wars fighting game using the Soul Calibur engine, though I do wonder how some of the characters would play. At any rate I would imagine after some thought that both characters will probably be in both versions eventually. It will just be a question of if the price will be decent enough to justify or if Namco will pull an Activision on us. Either way, I am betting these two are just the tip of the iceburg as Namco has proven with both Ace Combat 6 and Beatuiful Katimari that they have no problem releasing "partial games" and then selling the rest at a premium on the XBLM.
