Cheap Gamer Vol. 7

For all those PC turned DS gamers, have I got a game for you. It's simple, addictive, and can easily turn into hours of game play. Not only is it a great puzzle game, but it sells for only $19.99 used. What game might this be? It's Mahjong Quest Expeditions.

Mah Jong is a solitaire style game based on a classic Chinese game. The goal is to remove all tiles from the board. You are only allowed to remove one free pair of tiles at a time. The tile is free when there are no tiles either to the left or to the right from it.

The Quest has new tiles with various powers. These new tiles include:

* Dynamite tiles explode specific rock tiles.

* Ice tiles will melt and reveal tiles underneath if you remove adjacent tiles off the board.

* Balloon tiles will float away if you manage to free them from underneath other tiles.

But these new tiles are only a part of the Mah Jong Quest mode. If you would rather play by the standard tiles and rules, just click on the classic mode.

Other new additions to the game are puzzle modes that use the normal Mah Jong Quest rules, but have different aspects to them. For example, one puzzle has the tiles face down, and to move on to the next puzzle you have to remove them in a specific order. Each score you get from the puzzle you play saves. That way you always have something to try to beat even if you have completed the puzzle before.

The only problem that I see with the game is the menu. Instead of having a menu that tells you exit, restart, or whichever feature you are looking for. You have icons representing them. But without having tried to use them previously, it's your guess what each icon represents.

Remember though, if you eyes tend to hurt on tiny details. This isn't the game for you. You have to focus on the tiles to see what symbols are on them.

No. Just no.

No? But...but you can play classic Mahjong too. Mahjong in your pocket!

Mahjong in the bathroom, Mahjong in the kitchen, Mahjong in the closet...

did you really buy that to review???

I would never pay to play that. I have Mahjong on my computer. That is just a basic game.

heck yes. Ill download this to my flashcart... but I wouldnt pay 20 bucks for it.

You're just grabbing at air, now. Just because a game is cheap doesn't mean it's worth it. You can get mahjong for free at a bajillion flash sites.

I mean, if Nintendo decided to sell me bejewled for $20, I certainly wouldn't buy it. This is just shovelware.

call me ignorant but i have never heard of Mahjong, is it cool? solitaire is cool, but i want to try this, it looks cool too.

I've got to disagree here. This isn't to say Mahjong isn't an effective timewaster (it is). If you have Windows however, chances are you already own this game. My recommendations for the bargain-conscious looking for DS puzzlers worth their money: Meteos and Polarium.

download to flashcard? MAYBE
buy it? sorry but no!
I have more things to use my money on and again majhong isn't the kind of thing i would like to have on my DS

Sorry most don't like this week's game. The game does sell very well. I got it during a B2G1 Free event at GS. Although I mostly play it when I go on long trips, but I think it's a good thinking game.

I don't enjoy traditional puzzle games very much, so I'm not so sure about this one. It might be worth a try though.
