The Fans who Built the House of N are pissed. This is somewhat of a rant, I rarely do these so bare with me.
After watching the Nintendo Press Conference I can't help but feel abandoned. Since the 1980's Nintendo's innovative, and exciting franchises are what made Nintendo what it was. Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda are the games we were raised on. Platformers, Puzzles, RPG's are the foundation of Nintendo. But this year Nintendo seems to be turning away from the games and the fans that made them what they are.
Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the most prolific people in the entire industry spent 4 minutes pretending to play a saxophone. He made no major announcements and didn't discuss any of the franchises he created.
You can stop showing us your bar graphs, and your sales records, I get it. It prints money. The Wii is owning the market because of it's appeal to casual gamers. Nintendo is a business, it needs to make a profit, fine. But completely abandon every single hardcore gamer who has made you what you are is ridiculous. We bought the NES, SNES, N64, and the Gamecube. We waited in line until 5am to get the Wii. We defended you over and over again against trolls who said you were a gimmick, and you abandon us?
And no Animal Crossing is not hardcore. The Wii has a pathetic representation over the internet. When they say I can easily interact with my friends, frankly I just don't believe them. Playing with my friends on Brawl was such a hassle, that rarely actually worked. GTA: China Wars is an attempt to appease us hardcore fans. A failed attempt. I have GTA already, as do all fans of GTA. I think Nintendo is confusing adult gamers with hardcore gamers. A popular M game doesn't count as a xcore Nintendo game.
Want to know what Wii owners are going to be doing this year? Playing fetch. Sharpening Pencils. DS owners? They are getting a cook book.
Here is the biggest news from Nintendo's Conference:
-Wii Motion Plus accessory with Wii Sports Resort (coming in the spring).
-Animal Crossing: City Folk, with Wii Speak Microphone accessory.
-Wii Music
What will be the Wii's legacy? The only franchise established on the system is the Wii Games (Play, Sports, Resort).
Where is the new Mario game? Where is the promised Wii Zelda game? How about the much rumored Kid Icarus? Metroid?
I'm sure there are tons of people who feel the same as I do, and probably just as many who think I'm way off base. But I really feel like my loyalty should lie with a company that deserves it, and as it stands now Nintendo does not. What do you think?

I feel sorry for the Nintendo loyalists.
I haven't seen the conference yet but from the sound of things it was very disappointing. I am not a fangirl of nintendo but they were the company I could trust to release some amazing games that I knew I would love....Nintendo what happened to you?
I believe Nintendo has officially kick hardcore gamers to the curb.
Nintendo saying that the Mario and Zelda studios were hard at work was the biggest cop out i have ever seen. its almost as epic as Clinton's "depends on your definition of the word is". if they are so hard at work why not atleast tell us what they are hard at work doing. show some concept art if you dont have any game play footage or something in a alpha stage. something so people with wii's can say "hey this isnt the gimmick people say it is."
*kicked*
totally agree with you on this one...poor wii owners. Nintendo E3 show sucked.
Nintendo's E3 Conference made me realize that I made the wrong decision in buying a Wii over a PS3. I don't like casual games. Period. I'm selling it.
Geez, it feels so sad, i am disappointed as well, i know that in a company there are ups and downs, but come on, ITS E3 for gods sake, what happened Nintendo?, i was hoping a good gaming line up. But lets see how this ends, there might be surprises, only time will tell.
He didn't even mention the new Mario Sluggers game, WarioLand's upcoming Wii title, or the new Kirby game. Weak. Where's the focus?
I have yet to see the conference but sounds very disappointing. But like Scarecrow said, there may be some some surprises, hopefully soon.
i think I've said maybe too often that the wii isn't in anyway hardcore or any good it just recycles games mostly come on how many times can you have Mario and really the wii will never be as good as 360 or PC and Ps3 and all of the wii games are over priced considering that the time input to make them is surely not as much as how much time it takes to make a game like Assassins Creed, and wii gamers seriously by naming your product with such a gay name they had already lost touch with hardcore and only appeal to noob gamers...(last point maybe excessive)
I havn't bought the wii because really the only 2 games i would want to play on it is mario galaxy and metroid with nothing promised down the road besides cooking games and a ton of games trying to mimic real life daily activies that I would rather do IRL. I already have twilight princess for the gamecube so no motivation to buy a wii there, I was really hoping they would release a new Wii zelda or even anything from thier old great library of games.
although i must admit i hope that you peoples don't get completely disappointed with the Nintendo with games coming like blast works and lets not forget Star Wars force unleashed!
but you do notice who their aiming at i mean just look at their opening clip and the mum the got to talk about the Nintendo in typical fake American fashion
but guys...theres still ANIMAL CROSSING..................eh yah your right
I was hoping for a better show. No kirby, zelda, or kid icarus? But like Scarecrow said, maybe there'll be some surprises.
did it ever accure 2 u that maybe nintendo is keeping things hush hush:
1. because they want 2 surprise us
2. they didn't want anyone to steal their ideas (cough)microsoft(cough)

@Mindnabobblehed
...no even tho microsoft did a lot of copying from nintendo(miis) and sony(eye toy, singstar) I just think NINTENDO is going the casual which was pretty much what they said. I don't expect any good hardcore games from them anymore. So I will never get my hopes up for them again. They must of forgot the sales for SSBB which was great to the thanks of the hardcore gamers that made them.
I have a felling the big N is gonna announce something big at E for All. I just feel it.
@CQC_NastyN8 and Mindnabobblehead
no console copied anyone all consoles have their goods and bads
Relax Nikole. Everything's going to be alright.
Sure, Kid Icarus wasn't announced, but we know it's coming. Punch Out! Wii, Conduit, and Mad World are on the way as well. There's still plenty to get excited about. Summarizing that as "fetch" and pencil sharpening seems like hyperbole.
That being said, I can understand why anyone found it to be disappointing. Nintendo wanted to focus on games that weren't necessarily awe-inspiring for most.
Although to me the Motion Plus more than makes up for it. Imagine a 1:1 battle with Vadar in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Perhap's that's pushing it (that game after all has a September release). But being a self-proclaimed Nintendo fangirl I'm assuming you played Twilight Princess. Picture the final duel with Ganon, except this time every movement of the wii remote is an accurate representation of Link's sword.
On a final note, sales don't establish legacy. Quality does. And the Wii has already had its fair share of grade A titles.
So Nikki, what you're saying is, if Nintendo had a big burly man chest, you'd be buried face down in it screamin' for him never to let go?
You guys need to get over this E3 crap. It sucks anyway and I was not blown away by anyone's presentation. Neither MS or Sony talked about anything that we had not heard already. E3 is a joke and as soon as we accept that, we can get pass this whole thing.
Secondly, where were all of the "hardcore" gamers during the N64 and Gamecube days? Playing Playstation 1 & 2, that's where. So you all abandoned the Big N first. The N64 did okay but the Gamecube barely sold 21 million systems. Where were the hardcore gamers then? They were tired of playing great games like Mario, Metroid, and Zelda. Nintendo was viewed as being to "family friendly" so why not embrace those that are willing to embrace you?
We know The Conduit is coming, we know MadWorld is coming and there is plenty of time for a big announcement from all of the companies. It's time to just let it go, stop whining and just wait and see what everyone has in store for us.
i wanted kid icarus
So, because of that you're easily disappointed then. Anyway, if I were Nintendo, I wouldn't have shown or done much with the press conference either. Some of the best game announcements are at the booths. Also remember that there is the Tokyo Game Show. So they might be waiting to make a big announcement there. Just have to wait and see what they do, thats all.
i could have sworn nintendo was saying that they would announce the second half of their 2008 lineup at E3.... that was in late winter early spring... so far i see 3 games.... thats not much of a lineup...
In my opinion Nintendo, as usual, chose not to reveal too much in terms of software because as we all know, the competition has a habit of borrowing ideas off of them left, right and center. Nintendo will show their games when they feel it's the right time, not when people demand it. In a way it's a bad thing but whatever...
Nintendo will eventually throw us xcore gamers a bone, we all know it's coming, eventually. But the damage is done, they have made it obvious that we aren't what they are catering to anymore. Sure in the next few years we might see a Zelda but how many Wii Sports games will come out in the mean time? I don't want to pretend I'm boxing anymore. The Conduit and MadWorld might be considered hardcore games but I'm not looking for a hardcore game. I have the Xbox and Playstation if all I'm looking for is a hardcore game. I want a xcore Nintendo game, something from one of the established franchises.
And someone asked where I was when the N64/GC came out, I was in front of my N64, and my gamecube, which was a cop-out of a system, but we bought it and played it anyway. Hence the fandom.
I think Nintendo so far has done an excellent job of balancing casual and hardcore games.. honestly for every Wii Sports, Mario Party and Wario Ware last year, we got a Fire Emblem, Mario Galaxy and Metroid. And this year started off on the right foot with Smash Bros and Mario Kart, along with Wii Fit. So Nintendo's main focus at this year's E3 was the casual gamer.. that doesn't mean we aren't getting anymore classic Nintendo franchise games... they just chose E3 to showcase their casual games and will reveal their meatier lineup of games at some other show probably. And they better..
Whatever happened to the Nintendo Seal of Quality? Now it seems that %95 of what they put out on the Wi is shovelware like Ginger Bread Ninja Man or Indy Racing Legends. How do games like these get put out? Their lucky the motion controls caught on with the 65+ crowd and the people who play Wi Sports and Wi Fit for a few weeks then rarely touch it again.I know about 10 people who have done just that. Imo the DS has more hardcore Nintendo games than the Wi. A new StarFox,Stunt Race Fx, and Excite Bike would be a good start. A new Cruising USA not a rerelase of the 10+ year old game,Killer Instinct and ,Rc Pro Am are other good ones along with the ones you mentioned. The 5 or so good games the Wi has are great though. Just need more.
@JPThunder01
Dont wanna sound mean but yah need to get your head out your ass and stop being in denial. Lets be serious NINTENDO has be focusing on CASUAL LAND ever since they launch the damn system. Yes your gonna get those hardcore games like mario and zelda, but how many times can you have a mario branch of games? They need to make new hardcore IP's for hardcore gamers. Do you really think a game like ANIMAL CROSSING is gonna make the hardcore gamers excited???
God, people. What the hell?
Nintendo hasn't abandoned the Hardcore Gamer. Hell, it gave us that voice chat and better motion controls we always wanted.
Nintendo hasn't failed you, E3 just isn't the Big Announnce-All place it once was anymore. E4All and Tokyo Gameshow is where it's it, amoung others. E3 is just a formality. It's not just Nintendo showing off sales either, did you even see Sony's cute little sales and "South America" presentation. Also, Microsoft didn't announce anything at E3, save for copying off of Nintendo's Mii's, and a Movie parnership and other things targeted towards casuals. Remind you of anything? Though they did show off more gameplay off shooting things, it just goes to show you what E3 has become, a shameless "Self-PromotionFest". Nintendo will give us other things we desire, just later on.
nintendo's presentation wasn't too interesting. i watched some of it, as i have a wii and wanted to see what was going on, albeit not getting my hopes up.
i also watched some of the 360's, which was alright.
i liked sony's as well.. maybe more so as all they showed were exclusives, compared to MS, who showed a lot of multi platform games.
cant wait for God of War 3!
I must say I agree. As much as I like Nintendo, my Wii lately has been collecting dust while my 360 is on 40% of the day. The the only Wii game I've actually taken the time to beat is Super Mario Galaxy...and I was surprised with that game. They made it sooo easy. I mean, Toad handing out 5 lives all the time + all the help; they practically handed everything on a silver platter. No doubt to appeal to the "casual" crowd (honestly, mario galaxy to me barely counted as "hardcore"). Right now the only Wii game I'd consider buying is The Conduit (when it's out) but...I could get the same or better on the 360. So IMO, yes, Nintendo has been ignoring the more hardcore gamers.
You say that a new Wii Zelda game was promised? When did that happen?
Dude, when N64 came out, I was so angry because it wasn't like SNES in any shape or form. I thought it was gonna be the 3D answer to super nintendo. You just gotta have faith in nintendo. Gamecube let us down, but DS gave us hope. The wii may be half and half. They break the cliche, old people play games now. When we hit 70, nintendo will probably have our backs.
Oh and in addition to my n64 comment, it wound up giving me a lot of great memories anyway. The Wii nonsense games are just a phase. I believe. I believe.
I still don't own a Wii because of all those cruddy games, just so not worth it. Sorry nintendo fans..
I'm only borrowing my bros Wii for Star Wars: TFU
That's IT!
I agree with femme.... when it comes down to money on a console and games, the wii just cant justify its costs + game costs to me... despite this being the first Nintendo System I HAVENT owned since I started on the NES.
but then again this is just my opinion i can understand that people do enjoy it so if the console gives you entertainment then its good..for you
Officially i say i hate Mario...,Zelda its just been recycled so many times and the word wii but i admit the wii-sports, the wii remote are good except that you look like a dick if you try pro gaming with the wii-remote because you look like you having a epy attack.
@Navie- The Wii is the cheapest out of all the consoles and the games are $10 cheaper than the other two as well..so in a sense it is justified. The games may seem bad to most people but I do enjoy playing my Wii. I am a kid at heart so all the kid games really appeal to me because they are fun.
How it panned out for me:
Wii System with one controller and Wii Sports $250
Average Game $50
HD Component Cables $30
Total: $330
Xbox 360 Pro Edition with one controller $300
Wireless Network Adapter $100
Xbox Live Gold Card $50
HD Component Cables $60
Average Game $60
Total:$570
$240 is a nice bit of change.
Holy shit. Somebody actually gets it. Gaming isn't about your particular console's "representation over the internet," nor is it one big dick swinging contest. It's about having fun. I realize this might sound foreign to the people too busy screaming "the sky is falling," so I am willing to elaborate for anyone who finds the concept irrational.
If you want to put the blame on a company for ignoring the hardcore audience, blame third party companies who for the most part have used the Wii as a cash cow to release last-gen ports and cheap party games. Nintendo has at least put out a lot of their major franchise games already, in fact they released almost as many of their games in the past couple years than they did for the Gamecube over the course of 5 years. A pretty impressive feat. So yeah, if you look at last years software and the start of this year, Nintendo clearly hasn't been the one ignoring the hardcore audience, it's third party companies.
I can see why you are frustrated with the poor Nintendo showing at E3. But cheer up! I do recall reading an article last year where Nintendo stated that they did consider E3 as the event to announce their upcoming block busters.
The article stated that they prefer to announce their "big guns" at the Tokyo Game Show. So everybody be patient, don't sell your Wii's hold off on the Nintendo bashing and don't give up. Let's see what happens in October.
Common, give us a smile!
I'm sorry, I meant to say that Nintendo did not consider E3 as the event to announce their block busters.
yes Nintendo's conference was shit. they abandoned the hard core gamer so they could sell out to the casual gamer. the Nintendogs who follow them blindly try to say that they had a good show but we all know it was really bad.
For the casual gamer it was a great show... and E3 isn't even the be-all-end-all gaming show anymore, who's to say Nintendo isn't saving some of their better games for TGS?
Finally, people like Wii_r_the_Champions and JPThunder01 are getting it! E3 isn't the big thing anymore. It's more of a publicity thing as apposed to a "Big Guns"-fest you guys wish it were. That version of E3 is OVER. It ended in '06! *Steps down from Soap Box*
I used to be the most mindless nintendo fanboy until the Wii came out and now i'm a NintendoHater/SonyFanboy but that Wii motion plus got me a little exited. The 1:1 reaction time that brings the motion plus it's something that the Wii should had have it since the beginning.
Now no more shake the controller to do some kind of combo please?
Nintendo is "Hard at work" on a new Zelda/Mario title, and Dead Rising is being ported on the Wii. Happy now?
You're right, their money is on the casual gamers and the new gamers they've brought into the console equation. That's smart and just fine, but throwing their longtime fans a biscuit would be nice.

There you go, yonder whiny b!tch. New Mario, Zelda, and other stuff. Plus Shiguru practical annunced the existance of a new Kid Icarus game.
Game Girls are obviously Anti-Nintendo, lmao.
@calamity: I didnt mean in comparison to other consoles, I simply meant for the console, another controller, and one game... I dont exactly have £250 (thats 500 dollars) to spend. The wii would have to despense milk and cookies and go to work for me to get me to drop that much money on it lol. But maybe one day, when I have £250 to spare.
Wait for the Tokyo games show, if you look back over the years Nintendo seem to favour that for announcing big titles. But I am happy with my WII, its a great amount of fun and I never fail to have a blast with it.
An interesting note, I have a friend who is a major ass sony fan to the annoying degrees, but after seeing Wii music he wants a wii, could be because he is a musician but I was shocked by it. Lmao but now he reckons I should buy a PS3 to meet him in the middle grounds.
I'll just stick with my casual DS play... **hides in corner**
