E3 2008: Ubisoft Conference - Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, Brothers in Arms: HH and plenty More...
Jul. 16
The Ubisoft conference at E3 went underway earlier today, and it just seemed fitting that the Canadian GameGirl should cover it, what with Ubisofts largest headquarters residing in Montreal and all... Okay that's not really the coolest reason, but it's all I've got...
Vice President of Ubisoft North America, Laurent Detoc, kicked things off by playing a Demo of the newest game in the Rayman series: Rayman's Raving Rabbids: TV Party on the Nintendo Wii, showing off his SRS Wii balance board skillz! Click read to check out all of the Ubisoft conference highlights...
What?! ... I'm totally allowed to poke fun at my own kind, that makes it okay! Right?!
Highlights
*Rayman's Raving Rabbids: TV Party - Set to release on the Wii and DS in November '08
*Tom Clancy's End War - This RTS was boastfully stated as "The first video game you play with your voice" (command troops using voice activation) Available Fall '08 on Xbox 360 and PS3. Click here to go to the official End War homepage and learn more about it.
*Far Cry 2 - One of the most anticipated games this year is played on a demo, showing new game options, and equiptment. Set to release Fall '08 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC
Far Cry E3 Demo:
*Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway - This installment is based on a true WWII story of 101st Airbourne paratroopers. Set to release September '08. The trailer is so hair raising!
Tony Key (VP of sales & marketing) talks about their Games For Girls strategy and announces a few things in this category:
*Petz - New titles: Petz Horseshoe Ranch, Crazy Monkeyz, Dogz Pack, Catz Clan, Sportz, and Dogz '08 for Wii. Petz will also have a plush toy out later this year, on the back of the pet will be a code to unlock the toy as a character in the specific PETZ game.
*Imagine - New themes from the game that caters to the tweens, Imagine: Babysitter, Teacher, Wedding Designer, Party Babiez Wii, Fashion Designer New York, and Movie Star.
*Ener-G - is a new brand of game that will showcase "female sports" with the following games: Ener-G Gym Rockets, Horse Riders, and Dance Squad for DS.
*Shaun White Snowboarding - is said to "Redefine action sports", with a seamless experience that allows rider to openly board anywhere on the mountain they wish to go. Interact with friends, and even throw snowballs at each other, 'mark' a spot on the mountain you may want to come back to so you wont need to spent a long time looking for it again, and practice your moves in the half pipe that actually is the loading screen! (pretty cool, imo)
This action/adventure game gets a new prince, and a new princess Elika(sp?). Just like in Shaun White Snowboarding, and Far Cry 2, Executive Producer of PoP, Ben Mattes, stresses that Prince of Persia will be a completely open world for players to explore. He also goes on to say that there are many different paths players can take, which will develop a different story, so "no two players will have the same experience".
Elika, an AI controlled support character, is there to, and I quote, "Make you look cooler". She also saves your butt if you are about to fall off a ledge, or challenging course by reaching out a hand and swinging you back to earth's surface. This allows for less time spent dieing, and re-trying over, and over again. Does this make Prince of Persia more 'Casual Gamer' friendly? That's pretty much what Mattes was getting at... Prince of Persia will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC near the end of '08. Take a look at the absolutely stunning trailer:
Lastly! The brand new teaser game trailer that Ubisoft left us wracking our brains over. The game is called: I Am Alive. It reminded me a lot of Cloverfield. Check it out:
Comments
my brain has already exploded thanks to ubisoft because of far-cry 2 and prince of persia and i have already know everything about both games thus my comment will end with what you might of guessed if you have been reading my comments at all
FARCRY 2! M@$#%$@&CKING AWESOME ARRRGHHH
wow there was a pretty decent amount of win. well done.
So many good games comming out the rest of the year my head is about to explode. My wallet and social life are going to take a hit this fall.
You put the End War trailer twice, once under it's correct location, and once in place of the Far-Cry 2 trailer.
Most of this seems awesome, especially Prince of Persia and End War. I love the PoP games, undoubtedly some of the best action/adventure titles ever, I like the new Prince and Elika, and a more open world is definitely welcome. I really like End War's concept of controlling the entire game by voice commands, I can't wait to try that out.
Great article Femme!
Controlling the whole game with my voice, thats impressive although personally it does nothing for me. I'm mostly looking forward to the Prince of Persia and Farcry 2. Ubisoft definitley has a nice line-up.
