Why Are Some Female Gamers Upset?

**Warning This Will Turn Into A Slight Rant**
For those of you that watched Sony's E3 Press Conference we were given a sneak peak at some of their upcoming PS3 games and PSN releases. One among them has caused an out cry among many Feminist Gamers. But what could get these ladies so up in arms about a silly video game?

Read on to find out!

The game in question is Fat Princess, here is a brief description:

Frantic and fun, Fat Princess pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale. Your goal is to rescue your beloved princess from the enemy dungeon. There's a catch though: your adversary has been stuffing her with food to fatten her up and it's going to take most of your army working together to carry her back across the battlefield.

Now why would some feminist gamers be in an uproar? Simply put: This game is objectifying women and "fat-bashing". Seriously? Have these ladies stopped to think about the core reason games are created? Games are made so you can have fun not so you can try and start a riot. I'm sick of females like this who just bitch and complain about the way women are portrayed in games...GET OVER IT! Yes I would love to see a more "natural" beauty such as Lara Crofts new look in Tomb Raider Legend rather than ones such as Ivy from Soul Calibur (who recently got a pretty fancy boob job). But I'm sorry sex sells...people enjoy looking at beautiful things but what some have yet to realize is that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" someone you would deem as "ugly" would be absolutely gorgeous to another individual. Whatever an individual says to another individual about their looks, eating habits, etc. is not caused by a video game --so quit trying to put the blame on it.

I know that some feminists will attack me for this but seriously do you think women are the only ones who are objectified in entertainment? Look at the way a lot of the male heroes are portrayed: Tall, Muscular, Permanent Six Pack and Sexy. But is every man that way: NO. I don't know any guy who plays games to drool at the way Ivy's boobs bounce as she attacks her enemy.
Why am I so up in arms about this? Feminists piss me off. I don't wave the "I'm a female gamer so cater to me" flag like a few ladies do. They want equality yet they bitch and complain about EVERYTHING. Companies come up with a game that has a beautiful princess in it. So what if she is fat? Who cares?! Will that make it less enjoyable for you? Will you be so disgusted after playing this? NO and if you are then you are a completely shallow person. Companies are trying to find ways to appeal to the female demographic so they try and create more lead female characters (Have you heard of Mirrors Edge character Fayth?!) but its like no matter what they do these ladies just aren't satisfied. I don't think they will ever be.

I'm in no way implying that these women shouldn't express their opinion but when some of these women take it a step to far is when I get pissed off. One of these women actually felt compelled to do the opposite of what she was arguing --bashing the Fat Princess Character. I want to point this out that the characters in the game absolutely adore their Princess no matter what she looks like and are there to protect her during their rescue attempt, they even offer to carry her if she feels that she can't do it herself because they don't want to see their Princess in pain. Is there a hidden moral in this game? I think so. Final note:

Yah this was out a while ago. Lot of people had fun with this subject. LOl more like they trolled the hell out of the person's site and lets did things to her pic that were kinda funny =) (she became the fat princess)

If anything this game isn't even poking fun at women at all. Its mostly just fat people =/ so if your fat i guess you could be mad. If this game were called FAT PRINCE I'm pretty sure we wouldn't see any guys bitching about it now would we. These "people" just wanted to get their 5 minutes of internet fame and they got it, but in a bad way. If anything they just helped boost the sales of this game ( ITS A PLOT BY SONY I KNOW IT!!) Honestly, I think gaming and gamers in general have gotten too serious, and too sensitive lately. They can no longer take a joke, or come to the realization that they're just games people. They're supposed to be a fun escape from reality, so stop bringing reality into the games people. Who cares if it's a fat princess? If it was a skinny Barbie of a princess they'd b*tch about the image it's sending to young girls.

It's just a case of overly sensitive "gamers" not only missing the point of gaming, but turning a lighthearted thing into a big unnecessary ordeal.

Oh well. People just aren't happy unless they're unhappy I guess.

I completely agree with you Calamity! I am so sick of the feminist gamer girl bs, and quite frankly this game looks awesome. Some people just need to remove the large object from their rear.

I think it's kinda funny that so many feminist girl gamers are complaining about this. They finally bring in a girl character who isn't the main type that is used, and they complain more. Guess the gaming industry will never win. No matter what they put the character to look like.

As my girl friend (as in friend like same as in same as guy friends) would say she'd prefer looking at the Final Fantasy guys then me because they are sexy besides making me feel sad because she'd rather a pixel character then me, people rather look at beautiful things. Getting up in arms about this game is just ridiculous. It's supposed to be funny, even the premise of the game seems silly (but HILARIOUS). It's not supposed to be taken seriously!

I think everyone on here is right so far. Whether it's feminists or card-carrying "I'm a girl gamer, cater to me" girls, some people are always going to complain about SOMETHING.

WOW. A chick who actually gets it! Very well put Miz. The point you made about men being objectified in entertainment also is something I've been screaming for years. All you ever hear about is how women in games look "unrealistic" because of being so top-heavy and curvaceous. Are the men in video games realistic either? Do you know how many steriods a guy would have to inject to look like the men in video games? But you never hear about those issues do you? No, chicks are always the ones whining. Nice rant, great use of logic. I find often that in groups advocating under some simple connection, race, gender, religion, tend not to use logic when creating points of protest or argument. It's shameful really.

Nikole I think you have a new game, a Katamari where instead of a ball you get a fat chick or dude to roll around. I would so play that just for the laugh factor.

I would send a friendly wise truthful message to all the Feminist out there but generally Feminist are not interested in hearing ideas from within their own movement that do not match their own, so no matter what opinions we make they will not care or we will not change the fact that they will be againts this.
So when we think they are wrong and they think we are wrong is tough to really have an agreement, but i tell you this: They are totally wrong! i dont see bad things in this game, i am openminded and can distinguish whats offensive and whats joke-funny-hilaroius, Fat princess is funny.

This is the most hilarious thing ever. (this is me being a dick) The main girl that I saw having a problem with this game, you know the girl flipping you off, is a big girl herself. I don't really care but just admit your opinions are biased. The point in the game is to rescue a Princess, cause they are important right? Well the bad guys stuff her up and make her heavier so she's harder to carry. You don't like save the skinny princess and sacrifice the big ones.

I don't see why everything has to be offensive these days. I found the game quite hilarious when I first saw it. Still, it's impossible to please everyone. Sometimes, for better or worse, some will have to endure, while others will have the opportunity to laugh their asses off at the expense of others. That's life, God bless it.

Calamity, I completely agree. Why even bother getting upset over this? Some people are fat. Some are skinny, but some are fat... and its just a comical game of having to try to save the princess. Which didnt seem to bother anyone when its a skinny but stupid blonde to be rescued (yeah Im pointing at you, Princess Peach!)

I played this game at E3 and had a blast. Never once did it occur to me that this was degrading. I found it funny. Also the developer behind it is such a nice person, I'm sure he didn't mean to offend these women.

The funny thing is not a single one of them have played the game. If they did, maybe they would learn to take a joke.

there are alot of fat chicks out there who play videogames (remember that fat chick from fat camp on mtv who was extremely sensitive) and when they look at this game. the main perception they feel the game is advertising is making fun of fat chicks, laugh at how funny that fat chick looks like, and look at fat chicks do funny stuff.

@Dark Solstice 000- I never mentioned anything about anyone's weight. Some people can't help that their big, its in their genes, but they need to learn to lighten up. I will admit that my body isn't perfect but I have a high enough self-esteem to not let things like this bother me but the ladies who have an issue with this more than likely have a low self-esteem. I know some "big" women who are very confident in the way they look, they don't let anyone put them down because they are beautiful inside and out. The main reason I was irritated is because the ladies who are complaining aren't looking past the "cover" --you know the saying don't judge a book by its cover-- the developers didn't create this to make fun of "fat" people. Hell the characters that are trying to save their princess don't care about her weight, they just care about whether or not she is ok --kind of making them look past whats on the outside and look at whats on the inside.

I don't know why being a half naked bimbo doesn't get any heat by the same group. It just shows me that feminists are indeed shallow. Nice rant and your reply above further clarified your viewpoint.

Same way i feel about RE5 i'm black and i could care less so they replaced some of the white enemies with black enemies Congratz until i see a game where you play as a KKK member and hang and or kill black people i won't really care about racism in games.

I have been wondering if this would be such a problem if it was called fat prince.
